140G0120R0042 – Sources Sought – 65–X-Ray Diffractometer and Components

Aug 15, 2020 | Sources Sought

THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE ONLY for planning purposes to identify interested vendors for the requirement detailed below. This is for a new firm fixed price contract. A formal solicitation is not available for release at this time. In accordance with FAR 19.5, Set-Asides for Small Business, the Government will review the information requested in this announcement to determine the type of set-aside (if any) for this requirement.

The U.S. Geological Survey, GEM Science Center (GEMSC) has the requirement to purchase an X-ray diffraction (XRD) instrument to fulfill the qualitative and semi-quantitative mineralogy requirements of the Center¿s projects. The current X¿Pert Pro MPD XRD (Asset # 495912) purchased in 2007 and upgraded in 2017 needs to be replaced because it will not be serviceable beyond 2020. Replacement parts will no longer be produced by the Malvern Panalytical Inc., the manufacturer of the instrument, nor their suppliers, at the end of 2020. There are no other vendors that supply certified replacement parts for this instrument. Additionally, the service contract to maintain and repair the instrument is being phased out over the next few years (by 2023). The current instrument has a major failure about once per year and is currently inoperable because of a failure of one of its major components (the detector). Without replacement parts produced beyond 2020, the instrument will inevitably become obsolete and no longer able to fulfill our scientific requirements.

The Government anticipates award of a Fixed Price Award type contract. The procurement is anticipated to be delivered 60 days after contractor receives award of Contract.

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 334516 and the size standard is 1,000 Employees.
